New Bangkok Airport found taxiway problem last month ’caused by water’

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006 The Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) released the findings of an investigation after uneven and cracked taxiways and parking bays were found last month at the airport, which opened in September. Excessive underground water in and outside Suvarnabhumi airport is the cause of recently-found cracks on its taxiways, says the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT). EIT director Suebsak Phromboon said the airport’s asphaltic concrete pavement was soaked for too long and became too soft to bear aircraft weight. He attributed the problem to the airport’s failure to minimise the amount of water in the airport’s ditches. Consequently, the level of underground water surged and eventually seeped upwards to the layer of the asphaltic concrete pavement, Suebsak Phromboon said. ...

Thailand: Time

Thailand: Thaksin’s Giant Shadow Thursday, Feb. 01, 2007 By HANNAH BEECH News Flash: Thaksin Shinawatra, the former Prime Minister of Thailand who was ousted in a military coup last September, is forming a new party. For months, the 57-year-old billionaire had promised not to return to the political arena for fear of further rending the delicate fabric of Thai democracy. But in an interview with TIME in Tokyo last week, he made a bold pronouncement. “My new party will be called the Enjoy Life Party,” declared Thaksin, who in 2005 commanded the largest-ever electoral mandate in Thai history with his old party, Thai Rak Thai, or Thais Love Thais. The new Enjoy Life Party’s platform? “Playing golf, traveling, relaxing, meeting friends,” jokes Thaksin. “Don’t be too serious about life.” ...

Stealing a Bell with One's Ears Plugged

ref: http://www.chinapage.com/story/bell.html During the last days of State of Fan (Chu Dynasty), there was a thief who came upon a bell. He wanted to steal it, but it was too heavy to cart away. So he decided to break the bell into pieces. When he hit the bell with the hammer, the bell rang loudly. Not wanting others to hear the noises, he covered up his ears. By logic, not wanting others to hear the noises is understandable. To accomplish this by covering one’s own ears, so one cannot hear himself, is absurd. ...

Gandhian Philosophy

ref: http://www.mkgandhi.org/philosophy/gandhiphil.htm I know the path. It is straight and narrow. It is like the edge of a sword. I rejoice to walk on it. I weep when I slip. God’s word is: ‘He who strives never perishes.’ I have implicit faith in that promise. Though, therefore, from my weakness I fail a thousand times, I will not lose faith, but hope that I shall see the Light when the flesh has been brought under perfect subjection, as some day it must. ...
